As the sun hits the solar panel, it creates an and makes electricity. That electricity, unless you have a battery installed as a part of your system will not stop. You're either using it as it is or it's going back into the grid or onto the system. It's a use it or lose it. So as a homeowner, you have a choice again for night.
If let's say you wanted to power your house exclusively by solar, you would need solar and you would need a battery. It would charge during the day, and it would power your house during the day, and it would charge up the batteries at night and your home would run off of those batteries. And then during the day you would run off of the solar panels.
So, while no, it doesn't work at night, there are ways to make your home even more energy independent.
Our advice to you, is COMPARE. You know you want solar, so compare the different financing options and figure out the one that works best for you and your goals.
