Quick Outdoor Projects to Get Your Home Ready for Hot Weather

Apr 27, 2020

As temperatures begin to rise across much of the country, it’s smart to prepare your home for warmer weather. Primary Residential Mortgage, Inc. has gathered some helpful tips.

Spend some time outdoors during the nice spring weather to get things ready and prevent damage during warmer months.

Plant trees and shrubs.

Planting trees and shrubs can make your yard look nicer, but if you plant them in the right spot, they can also shade your house during the hotter months and keep indoor temperatures more manageable.

Check your outdoor plumbing.

Cold weather can be hard on sprinkler systems, hoses and outdoor plumbing. Since you’ll be using these systems more in the summer months, check them now for cracks, leaks and blocks to prevent flooding or damage.

Clear out your gutters and downspouts.

Spring and summer months often bring rain and thunderstorms. Check your gutters and downspouts to make sure they’re clear so things can drain properly.

Clear out flammable areas in your yard.

Warmer temperatures often send us outdoors to cook for festive summer barbeques. If you’ll be grilling outside, inspect your yard carefully and clear out any dry or dead plants that could be flammable.

Check your windows and doors.

Make sure your windows and doors seal well to provide better insulation. In some cases, you can fix things up with a bit of caulk. In other cases, you may want to replace older windows with new ones that can help keep your home cooler.

Check your AC unit and filter.

Make sure your AC unit is ready to run efficiently by checking the filter and cleaning it or replacing it.

These quick and relatively easy tasks can keep your home more comfortable, help make your outdoor space enjoyable and prevent expensive damage to your property.
